Finals! Finals! And More Finals!

Since I'm studying for finals this week, I probably hold off on posting anything new for 2 wks. However, if I hear some exciting news about the summer, I will make sure to post it.

For the meantime, enjoy the Making of Spiderman 3 part 1

Go BC!

As the semester is wrapping up, I'm really looking forward to next year. I got into the Semester in Practice program, which means I'll be working at a family law firm during the fall semester. most of the semester. I'm also thinking about taking mediation next year. Although some family lawyers say that mediation is not a requirement, others say its a valuable skill to have. Since I have a good time for registering classes, I'll probably pick it up and decide later.

Time Waits For No Man

Today is the last day of class, which only means that finals are just around the corner. This year I have two papers 20 papers to write and only 1 in-class exam (Family Law: Marriage and Divorce). I'm feeling pretty confident about this semester but the fact that my lower back is still in pain doesn't' help my cause. I want to try and knock out one paper this week so I can freely watch Spiderman 3 next week without any remorse.

My two paper classes are Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Family Law: Best Interest of the Child. For CRT, I'm writing on the lack of black participants in the criminal justice system. Thus, the lack of black cops, black prosecutors, black judges, and black jurors. I want to know what effect does this have on our justice system. In the Family Law paper, I want to explore the Best Interest of the child standard in regards to alienation of affection on the child.

Wish me luck. See you at the movies.

The Results Are In...

Yesterday, I went to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital and the X-rays didn't show anything. However, I did meet a BC football fan who talked my ear off in the waiting room. I start physical therapy today. Wish me luck.

Everything Starts To Shut Down At 27

Yesterday was my 27th birthday and I started the day off with a terrible pain in my lower back. A few years ago, I had the same problem and it stuck around for a few weeks so I'm praying that it doesn't last that long. I went to the doctor's office today and she gave me some Motrin and scheduled an X-ray tomorrow afternoon. I'm also going to start physical therapy on Friday. The doctor said that it could be a pinch nerve or some disk might have shifted. Let's pray for neither.
I'll keep you informed on my diagnose.

p.s.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes.

Go See Disturbia

Thanks to our reward points, Tisha and I saw a great movie over the weekend. Disturbia staring Shia LaBeouf (from Disney's Even Stevens) is a good scary movie in every sense of the word. No gore. No stupid trips and falls. Just good ol' movie suspense. This movie will have you on the edge of your seat. Trust me on this one.

Dixie Cup

I just wanted to show off one of my favorite pictures of all time.
Have a great weekend everyone!

So Close Yet So Far

The only sad part about being in Boston is being far away from family and friends. Although, I only have 1 more year of law school, I think God is putting things in place for Tisha and I to stay up here for a while. Rev. Rice always use to say, "Go where the jobs are," but its hard to know that your missing out on getting to know the youngest members of your family.

Each One Teach One

Thanks to my Juvenile Rights Clinic, I had the opportunity to teach a class this morning at Brighton High School. Although I fought with Catalina tooth and nail to excuse myself from teaching, I really loved the experience. The students were great and asked really poignant questions. The topic of the class was about juries. The students learned about the role of the jury, voir dire, and deliberations. If you want to view my lesson plan, click "Here" for my outline.

p.s.
I will never doubt Catalina again.

Second Time Around

As some of you might know, this is my second attempt at trying to start a blog. My first blog came in the form of a web page named Brooksworld. I started the page after my first year of Divinity School and it was a real labor of love. However, during my first year of law school, I got super busy thus the web page and blog were put on the back burner.
This new page emerged because I wanted to chronicle my 2nd year at BC. And since I needed a page to express my election campaign, I just decided to use the blog to do both. The only thing I need to do is pick up the trumpet again and I'm totally back on track.

To Erg is Human

Erging is my new pastime. I had a special training session yesterday with Pat Hurley (current LSA president) and he showed me a thing or two about erging. Whatever I thought I was doing, I now know that it wasn't erging. Starting with 3x 2minute drills keeping under 2 min/500 meters pace followed by 2x 1200 meter races, I nearly died after the session. I'm going to be so ready to rock and row on the 21st.

Heritage Dinner '07

Last night was BLSA's Heritage Dinner, where the Black students at BC Law celebrate the 3Ls for their hard work and dedication to the black community. As the historian, my job was to present a slide show of the year events. But, since the tech people were being difficult, I didn't get a chance to reveal the slide show.
However, we still had a good time at the dinner and I'm going to try and present the slide show at the last BLSA meeting.
